Both are set in similar times and places. Reading both series gives you a sense of adventure and grandeur, just in different ways. Magus shows the wonder inside of a book, while Magi gives you a feeling of exploration and adventure
Both have magnificent fantasy worlds. The main characters resemble each other so well! They can form bonds with important people quite casually. The society is messed up in sense of slavery or public contempt, in which the MC is caught somehow. They strive towards several goals, but their presence and personality makes people close to them open up themselves.
